STRANGE DRY RAIN
It was nighttime as I drove from my father’s house in Arbroath to Glasgow. My son was asleep in the back seat of the car. It began to rain but I noticed that no rain was falling on my windscreen. I could see the rain streaming through the headlights of the cars coming towards me. I could see that their windscreen wipers were working. I wound down my window. I could see the spray from their wheels and could hear the swish of tyres on a wet road. Yet still, no rain fell on my windscreen.
Not believing what I was seeing, I woke up my son. He too could see the rain but also that our windscreen was bone dry. He put his hand out of the window and onto the roof. It was completely dry. It rained throughout our journey to Glasgow. We could see the puddles on the road but still no rain hit our car.
In Glasgow I stopped at a service station and pulled up under the canopy to fill up with petrol. We got out of the car to check it. It was completely dry but covered in a fine dry dust. All the other cars were soaking wet yet ours did not even leave wet tyre marks on the forecourt.

To be honest I am at a loss to explain your strange journey. However, I wonder what the dust could have been. Perhaps the car had somehow been covered in a chemical that had high water repellent properties. This kept the car and windscreen completely dry. How it got onto the car is impossible to discover. |
